Man dead after 20-mile road rage chase ends with I-10 shooting near Ocean Springs

Authorities are looking for a suspect who killed a man by firing into the victim’s truck on Interstate 10 near Ocean Springs after a 20-mile road rage chase, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.

MHP Sgt. Justin Elkins said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations responded to a shooting about 4:30 p.m. Monday on I-10 westbound near mile marker 51 in Jackson County.

Authorities found a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 pulling a trailer. The truck was sprayed with bullet holes and one of the rounds struck the driver, Elkins said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram and the suspect were involved in a road rage incident for about 20 miles before the other vehicle fired off shots, witnesses told MBI on the scene.

The driver of Dodge Ram was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The other vehicle had Louisiana license plates continued driving westbound on I-10 after the shooting, Elkins said.

Elkins said authorities are working to get a description of the other vehicle.

The victim’s identity will be released to the public in the next day or so, Elkins said.

Elkins declined to say if the victim was local to the Mississippi Coast or if he was in the truck alone at the time of the shooting. He said more information will be released later as the investigation continues.
