Beware of scam calls pretending to be from Biloxi police

Biloxi police on Monday alerted residents to scam calls from people who are fraudulently claiming to be with the police department.

Complaints came in Monday from residents saying they received a call from someone claiming to work for the department, police investigator Cara Muirhead said in a news release.

The caller claims the resident has outstanding warrants and demands the purchase of gift cards of more than $1,000.

Biloxi police want the public to know that these calls are fake.

BPD says it would never provide identifying information over the phone or through email to an outside email address.
