Woman found buried in St. Martin backyard was shot in the head, autopsy shows

Autopsy results show that the woman found buried in the backyard of a St. Martin man’s home died of a single gunshot wound to the head, according to the state medical examiner.

The body of 29-year-old Sarah Jane Willard was found on Feb. 14 by Jackson County sheriff’s investigators in the backyard of Phillip Allen York’s home on Sweetbriar Street.

The 54-year-old York has been charged with the murder of Willard, who had been reported missing from her Coral Springs, Florida, home. According to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell, Willard went missing in October and met York online.

York is jailed at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center with a bond of $250,000 on the murder charge. He also has a $100,000 bond for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He previously served time in jail in Virginia for stabbing a woman.

York’s case is pending review by a Jackson County grand jury.
