Man, 20, arrested after shooting that leaves 2 hospitalized in George County

A 20-year-old man turned himself into George County sheriff’s deputies after a Saturday shooting that left two people hospitalized, Sheriff Keith Havard said in a press release.

George County deputies responded to a call of shots fired in the Benndale community about 11:30 p.m. Saturday and learned that two male victims with gunshot wounds were traveling by private vehicle to an area hospital.

The shooting occurred at a property on Jim Jam Road, the release said.

Jamar Vaean Jackson of Lucedale turned himself to George County investigators after the shooting and was arrested without incident.

He’s charged with two counts of aggravated assault and his held on a $50,000 bond at the George County jail.

Both victims were still hospitalized Monday, the release said.
