‘Straight Outta Compton’ actor arrested on drug, weapons charges on the Coast
An actor from New Orleans featured in a starring role on the Academy Award-nominated movie “Straight Outta Compton” is jailed in Harrison County on drugs and weapons charges, Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said in a press release.
Jason Antonio Mitchell, who portrayed rapper Eazy-E in the movie, was picked up in an Interstate 10 traffic stop Wednesday, a release said.
Mitchell was taken into custody shortly after an interdiction officer stopped his GMC Yukon on I-10 in Gulfport, just west of the Lorraine Road intersection.
The deputies searched Mitchell’s SUV and found about two pounds of marijuana in individually wrapped packages along with a bag consisting of 1,300 dosage units of the club drug, ecstasy, or MDMA.
The sheriff said it appeared Mitchell was involved in a mid-level drug operation based on the amount of drugs deputies seized.
In addition, authorities seized a 9 mm glock pistol with extended magazine and an AK-47.
A background check showed Mitchell had a previous felony conviction, resulting in his arrest on an additional charge of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Mitchell was taken to the Harrison County jail, where Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain set his bond at $150,000.
