Vancleave woman accused of taking $140K from a 77-year-old widow

After being hired as a caretaker for a 77-year-old widow, a Vancleave woman has been arrested and charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

The Ocean Springs Police Department reported that Tammie Scott of Vancleave was arrested in Hopkins County, Texas.

Police say that on Feb. 2 they began investigating an identity theft that occurred over two years.

Investigators ran a credit check and looked into bank and credit card accounts, and say Scott fraudulently acquired approximately $140,000 of goods and services.

Scott was extradited from Texas to Ocean Springs on April 8 and was being housed at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
