Man wanted after gunfire on Gulfport street, crash ejecting ‘at least three’

Police are looking for a Gulfport man after shots were fired on Washington Avenue on Friday.

Jarvis Dermetrious Brown is 5 feet 9 inches tall, 224 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He may be driving a black 2010 Land Rover with the license plate HAD7218. He should be considered armed and dangerous, Gulfport police tweeted.

He is wanted in related to a confrontation about 3:20 Friday, when shots were fired between two vehicles at the intersection of Washington and 35th streets, according to Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania.

“This is a very active investigation,” Papania said on Twitter.

Papania said there was a pursuit down Washington Avenue, and one of the vehicles flipped.

“It looks like at least three people were ejected,” Papania said in a Twitter video, including two woman and at least one child.

All were being transported to the hospital. One of the children is being airlifted out of state.

The department does have a suspect vehicle. Papania is asking anyone with video or information to call the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959.
