Hancock County man shot in chest after argument with ATV rider, sheriff says

The victim of a shooting in Hancock County on Monday identified the shooter as he waited for medical help to arrive, officials say.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department found the victim just after 7 p.m. on the ground with a single gunshot wound to the chest. It happened at Road 372.

While deputies administered life-saving measures, the victim identified the suspect as Mark Dempsey Hoda, who was taken into custody without incident.

Officials say they believe Hoda and the victim argued over Hoda riding his all-terrain vehicle on the road.

The victim was flown to an area hospital, and is still being treated.

Hoda initially was charged with aggravated assault. That charge was amended to attempted murder and he also was charged with with felon in possession of a firearm.
