Deputies find fugitive wanted in Stone County in assault on officers

Deputies on Friday found and arrested a man wanted in Stone County and Florida after he ran from officers on Wednesday.

The Stone County Sheriff’s Department posted on Facebook that Jessie Eugene Hughes was arrested with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Harrison County K-9 deputies and Mississippi Highway Patrol.

The 34-year-old was wanted in Stone County on a charge of assault on police officers and in Florida on drug charges, the department said.

He had been seen running from deputies near East McHenry Road on March 4.
