Councilman, wife arrested on simple assault charges

A D’Iberville councilman and his wife were arrested on domestic violence simple assault charges, D’Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne confirmed Sunday.

Police arrested Councilman Robby Ellis and his wife, Chelse, after responding to a call Saturday night at their home in the 20180 block of Belle Vue Circle.

“The officer felt there were signs of domestic violence occurring on both sides,” Payne said. “That could be injuries or other physical signs, such as a torn shirt.”

After their arrests, they were booked on the misdemeanor charges and released. A judge issued a no contact order between the two.

The Sun Herald has reached out to the councilman for comment, but has not heard back.
