Woman caught on camera abusing patient at Gulfport assisted-living home, cops say

A nanny-cam installed by family showed a wheelchair-bound elderly woman getting abused by an employee at a Gulfport assisted-living home, Harrison County Troy Peterson said in a press release.

Relatives of the 61-year-old woman with cerebral palsy suspected she was being abused and installed a camera in her room, according to the release.

Peterson said in the release that footage showed employee Candaneshia Deshante Bass stuffing a sock in the patient’s mouth and tying a scarf around her mouth to keep the sock from falling out.

Bass, 23, was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of simple assault on a vulnerable adult.

The residential home is at 14617 Canal Loop and had four people staying there, Sheriff’s Major Ron Pullen said Thursday.

Bass was jailed in Harrison County on a $50,000 bond set by Justice Justice Court Diane Ladner.
