Long Beach woman woke up to find a burglar in her home, DA says. It’s his 4th conviction.

A Gulfport man already convicted of three felony burglaries has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after breaking into a Long Beach woman’s home.

It is his fourth felony conviction, District Attorney Joel Smith said in a press release.

A 58-year-old woman living on Reed Avenue told police that after she woke up and walked out of her bedroom, she saw a man in her home and he ran out the front door.

Officers responding to her 911 call just after before 7 a.m. Jan. 2, 2018, found the man nearby. He had the woman’s jewelry and money in his pockets, Smith said.

Antonio Bernard Jenkins, 41, pleaded guilty on Friday. He had previously been convicted of burglary of a home in 2006 and 2015, as well as a simple burglary in 2015.

Judge Lisa Dodson sentenced him to 18 years in prison.

“Citizens should be able to feel safe in their home from unwanted intruders,” Smith said in the release. “This type of crime often leaves lasting, emotional and psychological scars for months and years after someone has violated the privacy of a home and stolen a victim’s personal belongings.”
