Inmate pushes down guard and escapes from custody at Ocean Springs Hospital, sheriff says
An Ocean Springs man in custody on four felony warrants escaped from Ocean Springs Hospital early Wednesday morning, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said in a press release.
Marshall Ray Williams, 29, was being treated at the hospital, and a deputy removed his shackles so he could go to the bathroom, Ezell said. Williams pushed the deputy down and ran out of the ambulance entrance around 5:30 a.m., Ezell said.
Williams was seen running toward the intersection of U.S. 90 and Ocean Springs Road. Later in the morning, between 8:30 and 8:45, residents reported seeing him knocking on doors at the Twin Pines Motel/Trailer Park on U.S. 90. A white, older-model Lincoln vehicle was seen “slow rolling” through that area around 11 a.m., but Ezell said it’s not know if the vehicle is associated with Williams.
Williams is 5 feet 9 inches, weighs 160 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark gray shirt, gray shorts and white shoes. Williams had grown his hair out into an afro hairstyle, a Jackson County sheriff’s spokesperson said.
He was arrested Tuesday on a misdemeanor stolen vehicle charge, Ezell said, and also had an at-large indictment for possession of stolen property. He also is wanted on a fleeing and burglary charge by Harrison County Sheriff’s Department.
