Man found with cocaine led deputies on pursuit through Gulfport, sheriff says
A Gulfport man who led police on a chase through Gulfport and onto Interstate 10 had cocaine in his vehicle, the Harrison County sheriff said in a press release.
Sheriff Troy Peterson said on Dec. 4 deputies were called to 10000 block of Steeplechase Drive in Gulfport because of a suspicious vehicle in a driveway.
Deputies attempted to make contact with driver, later identified as 44-year-old Charles Lamond Gill, but he sped away, traveling east on Landon Road before turning south on U.S. 49, Peterson said in the release.
The pursuit then moved to I-10, where deputies used spike strips to stop Gill’s vehicle near mile marker 29, according to the release.
Peterson said Gill ran when the car came to a stop but was later caught by a sheriff’s K9.
Deputies found 21.6 grams of a “white powdery substance” later identified as cocaine, according to the release.
Gill, who lives on Saddle Drive, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was also arrested on misdemeanor charges of DUI, failure to yield blue lights and siren, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
Gill is held at the Harrison County jail. Justice Court Judge Brandon Ladner set Gill’s bond at $38,000.
