A woman told investigators she wanted to take her bag and go to a doctor, but a man who also lives in the home wouldn’t let her go.
Instead, he slammed her to the floor, kicked her in the stomach, slapped her in the head and tried to choke her, Sheriff’s Investigator Mark Allison said.
“Neighbors heard it and called the police,” Allison said.
It happened Tuesday morning at a home on East Jackson Street in the Bayside Park community, he said.

Deputies arrested Damon Michael Billiot, 37, Tuesday night.
Details and a motive are unclear. Alison said he would be interviewing Billiot later Wednesday.
Billiot faces a charge of aggravated domestic assault.
He was held with no bond overnight at the Hancock County jail.
Judge Tommy Carver set bond Wednesday at $20,000, the jail docket shows.
