Man shoots 16-year-old to death while the teen was visiting his home, Moss Point police say

A 16-year-old fatally shot Friday night knew the man who shot him and was visiting at his home, police said.

People who were at the house were taking Xavier Davison to a hospital when police responded to a woman’s call for help about 8:57 p.m. on Rollins Street.

Xavier was shot once in the chest and died at Singing River Hospital.

Jeylen Fountain, 22, is accused of shooting him.

The homicide is the city’s fourth fatal shooting since January. Seven people have been wounded in shootings so far, and five of those were in just two shootings reported this year.

Police learned of the shooting at Fountain’s home when a woman reported hearing several shots fired in the 3500 block of Rollins Street. The neighborhood is east of Mississippi 613 and between Grant and Griffin Streets.

“It started with an argument that led to a fight, and then shooting,” Interim Police Chief Brandon Ashley said.

He declined to say what the argument was about but said several witnesses identified Fountain as the shooter.

Fountain turned himself in to police on Saturday.

Police arrested Fountain on a charge of manslaughter.

The charge was listed as murder on the Jackson County jail docket Monday afternoon.

Fountain was being held with no bond.
