A fight at a local motel escalated quickly. Now a man is in the hospital.

A Jackson man is in serious condition after being shot Thursday in Jackson County.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute between 33-year-old Tony Piggs of Jackson and Adrenia Buxton, 39, of Gautier. The shooting happened at the Ramada Inn on Tucker Road near Ocean Springs.

Ezell said Piggs and Buxton were arguing when Piggs pulled out a gun and Buxton bit him in the chest, causing him to drop the weapon. Buxton then retrieved the weapon and shot Piggs one time.

Piggs is in serious condition at Merit Health Biloxi, Ezell said. Buxton has not been charged in the shooting and her case will be taken before a grand jury.
