At least two people were hospitalized Sunday afternoon after a reported shooting incident in Bay St. Louis near the corner of Sycamore and St. Francis streets.

Police from several local agencies were on the scene Sunday, investigating at least two different crime scenes, one on Sycamore and one on St. Francis, less than two blocks apart.

Bay St. Louis Police Chief Gary Ponthieux said in a press release that officers responded to a report of a shooting at Sycamore and St. Francis streets.

Witnesses said they heard what they believed were gunshots shortly before police arrived.

At the St. Francis Street scene, a van appears to have either crashed or been intentionally driven into the front yard of a residence.

Ponthieux said the crashed vehicle had two occupants both of whom had been shot. Officers on scene also found a third suspect at the scene who suffered injuries from being struck with a vehicle.

Police blocked off three blocks Sunday afternoon, at St. Francis, Sycamore and Bookter streets, as they assessed the situation.

All three people injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment. According to Bay St. Louis Police their statuses were not known.

Bay St. Louis Police are asking that anyone with information on the incident call the police department at 228-467-9222.
