A felon from Auburn, Alabama, stole two vehicles in the same day with a woman’s help, police said.
Rodney James Vite, 25, had help in stealing both vehicles on Tuesday, D’Iberville Police Lt. Jason King said.
Vite is suspected of stealing a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta and using it to steal a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, King said.
The Jeep disappeared from the Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort and the Cherokee was taken from the Navy Federal Credit Union parking lot at The Promenade shopping center.
Police found the Jeep in an empty parking lot near the Scarlet Pearl. Its owner reported a handgun was missing from the vehicle, King said.
Patrol officers found the Jetta on Sangani Boulevard, and Vite and a woman were in the car, he said.
Police took both into custody, but officers released the woman to American Medical Response due to medical issues, King said.
Vite faces two counts of motor vehicle theft and one count of possession of a weapon by a felon.
Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain set Vite’s bonds at $100,000.
Vite was being held at the Harrison County jail pending an initial court appearance.
King said the investigation continues.
