DNA identifies burglar from Picayune who attacked homeowner

A Louisiana prosecutor says DNA on a hat left at a burglarized house identified a Mississippi man who asked for money, brandished a knife, hit the homeowner and went indoors to look for valuables.

District Attorney Warren Montgomery said Monday that a St. Tammany Parish jury convicted 34-year-old Henry Pittman of Picayune on charges of burglary, attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery.

He says the victim was grilling food outside his Slidell house in March 2015 when Pittman came up, asked for money, then attacked.

Montgomery says the 44-year-old victim ran to a neighbor’s house and Pittman went into the victim’s home. As Pittman left, the DA’s office says he left behind a cap that linked him through DNA analysis.

Montgomery says sentencing is scheduled Dec. 15 for Pittman.
