A 17-year-old from Moss Point is charged as an adult in an armed robbery in the Escatawpa community, Sheriff Mike Ezell said.

Azavier Tyress Baker and a juvenile were walking on Jeffery Street on Tuesday afternoon when Baker walked up to a man and asked to use his phone, Ezell said.

The man reported that as he pulled out his phone, Baker pointed a gun at him and demanded his wallet, the sheriff said.

Baker ran off, but the victim identified him, Ezell said. Deputies arrested Baker at an apartment complex, Ezell said.

The juvenile who was with him reportedly was involved in the hold-up. The juvenile was taken to Jackson County Youth Court on a charge of accessory after the fact, Ezell said.

Baker was being held with no bond at the Jackson County jail pending a court hearing.
