The Police Department has arrested 44-year-old David O’Neal Foster of Pascagoula on a felony charge of causing a death while driving under the influence after he allegedly hit a Grand Bay, Ala., man who died from his injuries.

Police Capt. Doug Adams said Jonathan Born, 30, was walking late Friday night across Chicot Street when he was struck by a vehicle. Adams said Born was taken to Singing River Hospital, but did not survive.

Adams said police draw blood in all cases where a driver is involved in an accident that causes a death. He did not have details of Foster’s arrest, but said his alcohol-blood level would have been checked, resulting in the DUI causing death charge.

Foster is being held without bond in the Jackson County jail, records show. He also was charged with a misdemeanor — driving without proof of insurance.

Adams said the investigation into the accident is continuing.
