A man is accused of assaulting a Bayside Park resident with a pipe and a large knife on the victim’s front porch.

When confronted by deputies, 49-year-old Charles Virgil Parker told them he didn’t know what they were talking about, Chief Deputy Don Bass said.

“He said he never even touched the man,” Bass said.

Deputies responded to a home Wednesday in the 6000 block of West Choctaw Street, where a resident had reported a 54-year-old neighbor was bleeding from his head.

The victim identified Parker as his attacker, Bass said. Deputies found the pipe and knife in the victim’s front yard.

Bass said the injured man required surgery. He had lacerations on his head and arm and stayed in the intensive care unit overnight at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport.

Bass said investigators don’t know what caused the attack.

“We haven’t been able to talk to the victim because of his condition,” he said.

Parker had a large bandage over the left side of his head when jail booking officers took his picture.

“The victim got him one time,” Bass said.

Parker’s bond was set at $15,000 in a court appearance Thursday. Parker has a Lakeshore address, according to the jail docket.
