A sex offender who was living out of his car in Biloxi has been arrested on a charge of failing to register his address in Clark County, Alabama, officials said.
Mitchell Tyler Coate, 40, had been convicted of second-degree rape in Clark County on Sept. 28, 2010.
His last address listed on the state’s Sex Offender Registry is the Clark County jail in Grove Hill, about 140 miles from Biloxi.
Coate had been sleeping in his car across the street from the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor. His car was parked next to 648 Beach Blvd., a vacant lot off Dukate Street, Biloxi Police Lt. Christopher De Back said.
How long he was in Biloxi wasn’t clear.
Coate was booked at the Harrison County jail and has waived extradition. It’s unclear when he will be returned to the southwest Alabama jail.
It’s not Coate’s first time to be arrested on a sex-offender charge on the Mississippi Coast. He was booked at the Harrison County jail in December 2015 on charges of failure to register his address and larceny. The jail docket indicates he was wanted after indictment in Cooke County.
