People who saw a man break the window of a car and steal a woman’s purse followed him. And so did police — through two cities and into Harrison County.

Police identified 48-year-old Herman Anthony Rogers of Gulfport as the man who burglarized a car Friday at Choctaw Plaza at U.S. 90 and Mississippi 603, Waveland Police Chief David Allen said.

Witnesses followed Rogers as he fled. Bay St. Louis police became involved , but Rogers eluded them, Allen said.

Another witness called Hancock County Central Dispatch to report seeing a man throw a bag out of a vehicle on Mississippi 603 as the vehicle merged onto Interstate 10. It was the woman’s purse, Allen said.

The pursuit came to an end after a foot chase on Kiln-DeLisle Road in Harrison County.

Waveland police arrested Rogers on a burglary charge.

Bay St. Louis police arrested him on charges of eluding and DUI other substance.

Rogers, a felon, is now being held with no bond for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

He was taken to the Harrison County jail Tuesday for an appearance in Circuit Court in an attempted burglary case.

Investigator David Buckley worked with other agencies to solve the case, Allen said.
