D’Iberville police say a Biloxi man has been arrested for attempting to steal a person’s car while they were in it and influencing a juvenile to join in the crime.
Ronnie Wade Winngham, 25, was arrested Thursday on the charges of armed robbery, taking a motor vehicle and causing a youth to commit a felony crime.
D’Iberville police Sgt. Marty Griffith said officers to Bayshore Drive under the Interstate 110 overpass at 2:20 p.m. Griffin said a man was sleeping in his vehicle under the interstate when someone approached the driver’s door with a gun. The armed person demanded the man’s wallet, money and vehicle.
He said the complainant refused to meet the gunman’s demands and Winningham told his partner to leave in the car Winningham was driving. No items were reported stolen.
Winngham and Darius Bland, 15, of Gulfport, were apprehended on Brodie Road.
A BB gun was recovered in the vehicle Winningham was driving. Griffin said it was the gun that was used in the robbery attempt.
Griffin said Winningham and Bland were identified on surveillance video at Scarlet Pearl Casino. Griffin said they were seen on video stealing a car from the casino that was found abandoned. The car was recovered and returned to its owner.
Judge Albert Fountain set Winningham’s bond at $200,000 and Bland’s bond at $175,000.
