A nurse worked in a state prison until they found her with pot. Now she’s facing jail time.

A nurse from Wiggins has been convicted of having marijuana in a correctional facility while she worked at a state prison for men in Leaksville.

A Greene County jury found Sara Lana Denning, 54, guilty Thursday of possession of marijuana in the prison while she was working on April 28, 2014, District Attorney Tony Lawrence said in a news release.

Denning was a licensed practical nurse at the prison, Lawrence said.

Circuit Judge Kathy Jackson scheduled sentencing for Sept. 28.

“Contraband being smuggled into prisons threatens the safety and security of ... (those) who work there and prisoners they took an oath to protect,” Lawrence said in a prepared statement.
