The armed robbery suspect from a holdup at an Escatawpa convenience store has been identified as an 18-year-old also facing an armed robbery charge in Mobile.
LaLeon Smothers is accused of being being armed while taking money from a cash register Monday at Huntley’s, also known as the Buff convenience store, on Mississippi 613, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said in a news release.
Moss Point police found him and held him for the sheriff’s department.
The sheriff released surveillance pictures from the store that helped identify Smothers.
Smothers was booked at the county jail Thursday and was being held on a $100,000 bond.
Smothers can’t post bail. He is held for the Mississippi Department of Corrections on a probation warrant from a previous conviction, Ezell said.
Details of the Mobile robbery were not immediately available.
