Police arrested a Winn-Dixie cashier after investigating the store’s loss of more than $1,600 in cash over a period of six months.

Jenna Grace Sherman, who was working for the store on D’Iberville Boulevard, also embezzled about $90 in grocery items, bringing the store’s loss to nearly $1,700, D’Iberville Police Capt. Marty Griffin said.

A corporate audit of computer records indicated money from a register had disappeared, Griffin said.

Investigation led to the arrest of Sherman, 32, on Tuesday.

The embezzlement began in March and continued until the time of her arrest, Griffin said.

Sherman was released from the Harrison County jail later Tuesday night on a $5,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain.

Someone posted her bail within an hour of her incarceration, the jail docket shows.

The docket shows no prior arrests for Sherman.
