A Waveland man is accused of choking and holding his pregnant girlfriend at knifepoint after an argument turned violent.

Police Chief David Allen said William Vinson Smith Belcher, 18, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence and kidnapping. He is being held without bond pending an initial appearance in Waveland Municipal Court.

Allen said officers responded to Belcher’s residence on a report of domestic violence. Officers spoke with Belcher’s 17-year-old girlfriend, who said Belcher choked her during an argument, causing her to be unable to breathe. He then held her at knifepoint, she said.

The girlfriend’s stepfather was there, she said, and also got into an physical altercation with Belcher. The stepfather was taken to Hancock Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Allen said after gathering evidence and speaking to the girlfriend, mother and stepfather, Officer Steven Robin arrested Belcher.

The case remains under investigation and other charges could be filed, Allen said.
