Investigators and agents from various agencies found about 80 grams of heroin in a Gulfport hotel room, and local man was arrested and taken to the Harrison County jail, officials say.

Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said Alexander Archie Jr., 40, was arrested Monday on federal charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute heroin.

Investigators with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and agents from the Coastal Narcotics Enforcement Team, as well as detectives from the Gulfport Police Narcotics Division, executed a search warrant at a hotel room in the 9400 block of U.S. 49.

Archie, who was inside the room, was found with 80 grams of heroin, scales and nine dosage units of Hydrocodone, Peterson said.

Peterson said agents with the Drug Enforcement Agency are handling the case.
