Investigators believe a Jackson County jail inmate who walked away from a work detail stole a pickup truck, which he abandoned before his capture.

Donald Westley Matheny, 41, of Pascagoula, disappeared before midnight Tuesday and was discovered missing Monday morning, Sheriff Mike Ezell said in a news release.

The Metropolitan Enforcement Team arrested him about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the Kreole community in east Moss Point.

Matheny was serving time on burglary charges.

Investigators on Wednesday believed Matheny was still in the area because he had been seen in Pascagoula about 7 a.m. Wednesday, Ezell said.

More charges are pending.
