Grinches have shown up at four Dollar General discount stores in Jackson County, and a man and woman were filmed shoplifting merchandise at each, Sheriff Mike Ezell said.
“And they’re not the only ones doing it,” he said. “These organized shoplifters take a carload of people and one of them distracts the clerk while the others pick up several items, and they go back in and get more.”
Ezell released snapshots from surveillance video Thursday.
Despite the holiday season, the shoplifters are not taking items that could be given as Christmas gifts.

“They’re taking laundry detergent, cleaning supplies and household items,” Ezell said. “And they’re selling it on the street.”
Anyone who recognizes the man and woman in the photos is asked to call Lt. Randy Muffley at 228-769-3152 or 228-769-3063. Or tipsters can give information anonymously by calling Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898 or give a tip online at mscoastcrimestoppers.com.
Ezell said shoppers can help by being observant, getting descriptions and license-plate numbers and calling law enforcement.
“Organized shoplifting’s been going on a long time,” he said. “This is nothing new. But it hurts our stores. It hurts our communities.”
