A Monday night fire destroyed a home in Stone County.
Firefighters responded to a fire in a home on Horse Creek Road in McHenry around 9:30.
McHenry Fire Chief Tommy Muffler said the two-story home was destroyed. No one was in the home at the time.
“The gentleman that owned the home had been there earlier in the day and he said he remembered cooking something but he thought he cut the stove off,” Muffler said. “His son-in-law reported the fire.”

Muffler said several Stone County fire departments responded to the blaze and they received assistance from some Harrison County fire agencies as well.
He said it took about an hour to get the fire under control and about five hours to extinguish it.
The fire is under investigation.
