A Vancleave man drowned Sunday at a popular swimming hole around the Barge Landing boat launch on Sunday, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said.
“He was out there swimming, and he went under and never came up,” Ezell said. “It looks like an accidental drowning.”
Anthony Pippenger, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday.
Jackson County sheriff’s deputies and the dive team went to the scene shortly after Pippenger, a resident of the Bluff Creek campground in Jackson County, went missing about noon.
