The gas station in the parking lot of Springs Plaza is closed and “will be torn down as part of an upcoming renovation to the shopping center,” Mayor Connie Moran said Tuesday.
On Facebook, she said more details would be coming soon.
The Kangaroo Express station sat directly across Vermont Avenue from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. A sign on the building urges loyal customers to use the nearest Kangaroo at 1104 Bienville Blvd., which is at Washington Avenue and U.S. 90.
The gas station building is at the southwest corner of Springs Plaza, which houses Winn-Dixie and other businesses. Moran said the Springs Plaza developer and owner has plans for the center.
Moran told the Sun Herald she was not at liberty to say what’s coming.
“The developers are working with architects and intend to do a renovation of the center and will come out in a couple of weeks with an announcement,” she said.
She said she believed the city would not lose Winn-Dixie.
“It’s good news they are renovating the center and will come forward with some plans,” she said. “They will announce it when they are ready.”
She said the city has been working with the developer for about six months, but so far, they have not officially submitted any plans.
Moran said the newest Circle K is at Hanshaw Road and U.S. 90 across from Wal-Mart.
