Jackson County

Apparent drowning victim is Steve Krebs Sr. of Pascagoula

A man who fell overboard from a houseboat in the Pascagoula River and apparently drowned has been identified as Stephen Foster Krebs Sr., 75, of Pascagoula.

Gautier police had been called about 9 p.m. Wednesday to the Big Lake area, where they were told a man had fallen overboard and had not resurfaced.

Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus released his name Thursday and said an autopsy will not be performed.

“Once the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources completes its investigation, it is expected that the ruling will be an accidental drowning.”

Krebs was known as Steve to friends and family.

The Gautier Police Department’s dive team and MDMR officers responded to the call.

Divers found the body about 11 p.m. in the area where he fell overboard, Gautier police Officer Matt Hoggatt said.

Gautier police are assisting in the investigation.
