Pascagoula is starting a new downtown event called Third Fridays that will involve music, art and kids activities.

The city is offering a new monthly downtown event called Third Fridays — and it’s free to the public.

The idea is to draw crowds to the downtown area that includes shops along Delmas Avenue, Anchor Square, around City Hall and near the county courthouse and the city library.

On the third Friday of each month, businesses and restaurants will be open with specials and sales from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is much like Second Saturday in Bay St. Louis and Fourth Friday in Long Beach.

The long-term goal is to spur night-time business throughout the week, city spokesperson Ravin Floyd said in an email. The kickoff event will be Aug. 19.

Each month, Third Fridays will spotlight a property and feature a theme with an art component, live music and children’s activities.

We invite the community to enjoy what our downtown has to offer.

Urban Landscapes and Galactic Adventures are the themes for September and October.

“We hope Third Fridays will be a monthly event to support our businesses,” said Jen Dearman, director of Community and Economic Development. “We invite the community to enjoy what our downtown has to offer.”

August will be Dog Days of Summer with a dog parade and pet portraits.

Vendors are asked to LaLinda Grace at 938-2352.
