St. Martin High School senior Brittanie Harrow of Ocean Springs placed third in the state Poetry Out Loud recitation contest and is one of nine finalists who will be featured on MPB TV at 9 p.m. Monday.

Harrow had placed first in the Southern Regionals to advance to the state level, at which Harrow recited "The Art Room" by Shara McCallum and "A Fixed Idea" by Amy Lowell.

She plans to attend Birmingham-Southern College and major in music therapy.

Poetry Out Loud is a free program created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation for students in grades nine through 12. The Mississippi contest is administered by the Mississippi Arts Commission.
