GAUTIER -- A woods fire that threatened a neighborhood in North Gautier has been contained, and no homes were damaged in the blaze, a Gautier police official said.
Public Information Officer Matt Hoggatt said the Gautier Fire Department responded to a woods fire between Timber Lane Road and Kingfisher Drive, just off Martin Bluff Road, on Saturday afternoon. Neighborhoods along both routes were at risk, as the fire spread close to residences, Hoggatt said.
Police closed Martin Bluff Road and helped residents evacuate to safety until the fire could be contained.
Hoggatt said the fire was coming close to backyards, but firefighters successfully contained the blaze by about 5:15 p.m.
