JACKSON COUNTY -- A 3-year-old Ocean Springs girl died on Thursday as a result of injuries sustained in a crash in the Gulf Park Estates subdivision, Jackson County Deputy Coroner Jason Moody said.

Emma Lynn Lee was a passenger in a vehicle that struck a guardrail over Simmons Bayou while it was traveling down Beachview Drive, sheriff's officials said.

Moody said Lee died from injuries she sustained in the crash, and an autopsy will not be performed.

Sheriff Mike Ezell said Lee was in a child restraint device at the time of the accident.

"She was in a proper car seat, and everything was like it was supposed to be," Ezell said. "It was just one of those terrible things that happen."

Ezell said the male driver and another child passenger sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The names of the driver and the other passenger have not been released.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Gulf Park Estates Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance responded to the crash at about 2:20 p.m.

Moody said the accident is still under investigation.
