Ocean Springs water gets top score, again

OCEAN SPRINGS -- Ocean Springs has the longest-running, highest-rated water system in the state, and just got the honor again, spokeswoman Ravin Floyd said Tuesday.

According to her press release, Ocean Springs has for the 13th consecutive year received a perfect 5.0 rating from the Mississippi State Department of Health, division of water supply.

The rating is "a source of extreme pride" for the city Water Department, Floyd said.

It's an attractive accolade for the people who live there and businesses that might consider moving there.

City Public Works Director Johnny said he attributed the rating to the city's Water Department and Board of Aldermen working together.

He called it "well-deserved" and said it "is not easily obtained nor taken for granted."

The annual inspection is based on three areas -- technical, management and financial.

City leaders said the Water Department, including water billing, works hard to maintain its high rating.
