PASCAGOULA -- The city has closed the four boat launches at Point Park for renovations.
They were closed Thursday, and they won't reopen for boaters until mid-April.
The popular launches, near the beach just south of the Inner Harbor, offer Pascagoula boaters quickest access to the Mississippi Sound.
While they are closed, the city is offering launches at River Park and Lighthouse Park on either side of the Pascagoula River, the Old Spanish Fort launch on Krebs Lake and the Ladner Road launch on Bayou Casotte.

"This marks a new phase of improvements to Point Park," city spokeswoman Anne Pitre said. "Phase 1 was completed in 2014, and transformed the area from a dirt-and-gravel river bank to an attractive and usable area with parking, concrete sidewalks, landscaping and a grassy, tiered amphitheater."
The park will remain open for fishing and walking.
The renovations to all four launches at Point Park will cost about $300,000.
The finger piers in between each launch and the pier on the south side of the launches will be replaced. The portion of the pier on the north side of the launches that offers access to the fishing pier also will be replaced, but the fishing pier itself will not be renovated in this project.
