Jackson County deputies save choking infant
An 8-day-old infant owes her life to the quick actions of a Jackson County deputy.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said deputies Nathan Fisher and Christina Pitalo, along with Sgt. Mitchell McMillan, responded to a call Saturday regarding a choking infant in the 9000 block of Smith Avenue.
"Upon arrival, deputy Fisher found an 8-day-old child unresponsive and blue with her eyes rolled back in her head," Ezell said. "Deputy Fisher began to clear the airway and administer lifesaving aid to the child. Deputy Pialo assisted in the act."
The child was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital and is "currently doing fine," Ezell said.
"The officer's quick response and ability to administer first aid and lifesaving measures in a stressful situation saved the life of this child," he said.
