PASCAGOULA -- The president of the Singing River Health System's Board of Trustees has announced that three longtime members of the board will step down in keeping with a settlement agreement between the board, Jackson County leaders and attorneys for retirees who sued the county hospital systems over a failed pension plan.

Michael Heidelberg, president of the SRHS Board of Trustees, sent a letter to the media saying three senior members of the board have agreed to step down immediately -- Ira Polk, Tommy Leonard and himself.

Remaining on the Board will be Larry Cosper, first year trustee Scott Taylor and newly appointed trustees Jeffrey Belk and Don Barron.

Dr. Steve Demetropoulos, chief of staff of the county hospital system, and Dr. John Weldon, chief of staff-elect, also will remain on the board as non-voting members.
