Ocean Springs establishes tree beautification fund
The Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen adopted a resolution to establish the Ethelyn Connor Save Our Trees Beautification Fund. This program is designed for private businesses and citizens to donate money that will be used to plant and maintain public trees and the beautification of public property in the city. Connor, also known as the 'Tree Lady,' worked through her life for the beautification and historic heritage of her community. She was devoted to the planting of hundreds of oak trees throughout Ocean Springs. Connor was responsible for planting Live oak trees along U.S. 90 in memory of her husband, Mayor Donald 'Pat' Connor. Mayor Connie Moran, center, presented a copy of the Board's resolution creating the fund to Connor's grandsons, Craig and Brian Joachim. They presented a check to the city for the first private donation to the fund. Details: 875-4415.
