Ocean Springs welcomes K9 officer Axel

OCEAN SPRINGS -- The Police Department has welcomed Axel, a police K9, to their staff this week. He is a little more than a year old, is a black German shepherd from Czechoslovakia and specializes in tracking, criminal apprehension and narcotics.

K9 Officer Chris Strong said he is excited to be training with Axel.

"He is a lovable dog and the community will enjoy seeing him around town," Strong said.

Strong has been a K9 handler for almost 3 years. Axel has four more weeks of training before he is a certified patrol K9.
