Jackson County endorses regional tourism commission

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors today endorsed the creation of a regional tourism organization for the Coast, to promote all three counties as a single destination.

The five supervisors voted unanimously to support legislation that would allow such an entity to exist.

Jack Norris, president of the Gulf Coast Business Council, said it is important that all three counties are now on the record supporting a regional commission.

Time has run out, however, to have legislation introduced now.

Norris said they will pick up the issue next session of the Legislature.

Jackson County, which doesn't have casinos, overcame concerns that its tourism needs might be drastically different from Harrison and Hancock counties.
