A Texas fugitive arrested Tuesday after a vehicle pursuit, which ended after Sheriff Mike Byrd shot out one of his tires, is being discharged from Singing River Hospital and is expected to be turned over to Richardson, Texas, authorities around noon today for his extradition back to Texas to face felony charge there.
Steven Ray Milam, 44, led authorities on an chase Tuesday morning shortly after an interdiction officer tried to pull him over. Deputies ran his tag and learned he was wanted in Richardson, Texas, on charges of attempted capital murder of a police officer and bank robbery.
In all the suspect, dubbed the "Handsome Guy" bandit because of the Hollywood type masks he wore during the heists, is a suspect in a half dozen bank robberies in North Texas.
After his arrest, Milam, who had swallowed numerous pills during the pursuit, was taken to Singing River Hospital, where his stomach was pumped and he was held overnight for observation. Milam will be transported to the Jackson County jail after his hospital release. He's currently facing a felony pursuit charge here.
