Pascagoula police searching for suspect in robbery, carjacking

PASCAGOULA – Police are looking for a man who forced a woman out of her car at a Pascagoula gas station and led officers on a chase that ended in Moss Point early this morning, authorities said.

The suspect is black, in his mid-to-late 20s, and was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts, said Lt. Chuck Fowler.

Police were called shortly after 4 a.m. about a shoplifting at a convenience store at Denny Avenue and Chicot Road. Witnesses said the man took two cartons of cigarettes and then pulled a woman from her car and used the vehicle to flee, Fowler said.

The man did not display a weapon and the victim was not injured, he said.

After a brief pursuit, the man abandoned the car at Fredrick and Sapphire streets, Fowlers said.

Residents there told the Sun Herald the car struck a brick mailbox and damaged several vehicles.

Anyone with information is asked to call Pascagoula police at 762-2211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
